News VELB/ ILCA Congress

First joint VELB/ and ILCA-Congress on October 1 - 3, 2008 in Vienna

Dear Colleagues,

We are very happy to be able to invite you, in the name of the European Lactation Consultants' Association (VELB) and the International Lactation Consultants' Association (ILCA) to the first joint conference on October 1 - 3, 2008 in Vienna.

This conference is for IBCLC Lactation Consultants, nurses, midwives, physicians, nutritionists, La Leche League colleagues and all others who support mothers and their babies. Under the motto of “A World Wide View on Breastfeeding”, you will have the
opportunity to exchange views with colleagues from around the world, broaden your knowledge and collect CERPS in one of the most beautiful cities of Europe.

Internationally recognized speakers, through their contributions to the primary topics Bonding and Early Child Development, Motherhood and Grief, Premature Babies, and Ethics in Breastfeeding Counseling will enrich your everyday working life. News and
other noteworthy information from the field of breastfeeding counseling will inspire and stimulate you.

You are cordially invited to submit abstracts to present and discuss your knowledge and your work and, in this way, actively participate in this conference.

The conference will take place in the Austria Center in Vienna. Conference languages are German and English with simultaneous translation.

VELB, ILCA and the Austrian Association VSLÖ cordially welcome you.

Dr. Gabriele Kewitz, IBCLC, President VELB
Rebecca Mannel, BS, IBCLC, President ILCA

In keeping with the overall theme of "A World Wide View on Breastfeeding", the date for the 2008 VELB / ILCA Conference was chosen to coincide with the European celebration of World Breastfeeding Week.
The organizers also attempted to take into consideration a number of other factors to facilitate participation for many IBCLCs and other professionals. They secured the dates at the conference venue outside the high season for flights, not coinciding with major local events and thus not during the season of highest hotel prices, yet still in a season appropriate for traveling.

The organizers understand that the partial overlap with some national and religious holidays may complicate the decision to attend the conference. For those who want to observe Rosh Hoshana [29.09 - 01.10] or Eid al Fitr [02.10.08] in Vienna our Conference Office can supply contact details for the relevant religious communities.
